Whole life carbon assessment (WCLA) is a method of calculating carbon emissions produced throughout the lifecycle of a built asset. RICS published the second edition of the WLCA standard in September 2023. This global professional standard, which now covers buildings and infrastructure, can be used by professionals, from cost consultants and building surveyors to designers, engineers and environmental, social and governance consultants, to meet client and government demand for consistent and accurate carbon measurement.
